What To Do If Your Vacuum Cleaner Isn't Sucking

Posted on

The main job of your vacuum cleaner is to suck up the dirt on the floor. If your vacuum cleaner isn't getting the level of suction that it should be, there are a few different things that can be at play.

Check the Level of the Bag

Start by checking the bag on your vacuum cleaner and make sure the bag is not full. If the bag is full your vacuum cleaner is not going to get the right level of suction. Just change out the full bag with a new empty bag and see if the level of suction changes.

Check the Filters on Your Vacuum Cleaner

Next, you need to check the air filter on your vacuum cleaner. When the air filter gets clogged up with dust and debris, not enough air will flow through your vacuum cleaner, resulting in not enough suction which will cause your floors to remain dirty after you vacuum.

Clean the filter by rinsing it off with some basic soap or water. Or you can replace the filter with a new one. Then, turn on your vacuum cleaner and see if the suction has been restored to the vacuum cleaner.

Check the Height Setting on Your Vacuum Cleaner

Next, you need to check the height setting on your vacuum cleaner to see if it is changed. If the height is too high your vacuum cleaner will not get the right level of suction. Adjust the setting on your vacuum cleaner so that it is low enough to properly suck up the dirt from the floor.

Check the Hose

Next, you need to check the hoses. Something may have gotten stuck inside of a hose. Take the hose, straighten it out, and then take a flashlight and shine inside the hose to see if anything is stuck inside. If something is stuck inside, see if it is possible to dislodge by shaking the hose. If this doesn't seem to work, use an object to push it out.

If there is nothing inside the hose, check the condition of the hose. If the hose has a hole in it or has been cut or damaged in any way, air is escaping out of the hose as you vacuum, which will result in a decrease of suction. Replace the damaged hose to get your vacuum cleaner working properly again.

If your vacuum cleaner doesn't have enough suction, start by changing out the bag and filter on your vacuum cleaner. Then, check the height setting and adjust it if it is too high. Finally, remove any foreign objects from the hose and replace the hose if it is damaged. For more information and parts, check places like Windsor Vacuum Parts.
