4 Tips For Loading Your Rental Dumpster Efficiently

Posted on

If you have a lot of garbage to get rid of at once, renting a dumpster is a great solution. However, fitting and loading everything into that dumpster is not always as easy as you might think. If you don't load things efficiently, that 30 cubic foot dumpster won't hold nearly as much as the rental company told you it would! Thankfully, there are a few simple tips you can follow when loading your rental dumpster to fit more in and make good use of the space.

1. Cut Up Large Items

Large items, especially when they are oddly shaped, tend to fit into the dumpster better when you cut them into pieces. It's easier to maneuver four small pieces, so they fit into a space easier than it is to set one large piece down and then maneuver everything around it. If you have a reciprocating saw or can borrow one for the day, use it to cut larger items like furniture and wood scraps into a few pieces.

2. Load Larger Items First

If you have large items that you cannot cut apart, such as appliances or stone items, load them into the dumpster first. Then, fill in the space around these larger items with smaller items and bags of trash. This way, you don't waste all of the space that seems to appear between big items. Once you have the space around one big item filled, you can place another big item on top and keep building.

3. Fill the "Front" of the Dumpster First

You may be tempted to just toss things in and let them fall as they may, but you will fit a lot more in if you stack strategically. Start by filling the front of the dumpster. Then, move towards the back, and stack things up a little further. Finally, move further back and create another stack. This way, you don't have to worry about climbing over items to reach the front of the dumpster or leaving empty space simply because you cannot reach.

4. Park the Dumpster In a Wide Open Space

If the dumpster is in a wide, open space, you'll have an easier time accessing it from all four sides. This may make it easier to load certain items as you wish, rather than just tossing them in any way you can muster. Plan ahead and clear a space so that when the dumpster company arrives, they can just drop the dumpster.

Follow the tips above, and you'll fit more into your rental dumpster. For more information, contact a company like containerservicesunlimited.com.
